How do I dye my hair back to my natural brown color. I have blonde highlighted & REALLY dry hair

My hair has been highlighted for years. I want a solid light/medium brown, but it always turns out way TOO dark at the salon. My hair is so dry that it grabs color really well. My roots have grown out 2 inches. Is it too difficult to let it grow out? I want my natural hair, since it is soooo dry and damaged from flat iron, color, layers, etc. PLEASE HELP!! Thank YOU!

Find a shade at Walmart or another such store, that matches your roots well. Ask a friend to come with and help you, as you probably can't see your roots when you're looking at the boxes! LOL! Also, be very careful to not let it set on longer than recommended, as it could not only damage your hair more, but you could get a "green" tinge to it. (Been there, done that).

Layers won't hurt your hair texture, but constantly dying it will. Once you've dyed your hair with the color that best matches your roots, let it grow out, and, unless you have gray hair, don't dye it again. Let your hair recover from all the messing with it you've done over the years. Be sure to keep it trimmed properly, and use a shampoo %26amp; conditioner specially formulated for dyed hair.

Also, stop using a flat iron, or even a curling iron, unless it's absolutely necessary. Try getting a hair style that works with your hair texture and face shape, so that you don't have to mess with it so much. All that heat is just drying it out more.

Good luck!

stop flat ironing it and blow dryingi t for a couple of days. especially after you dye it back. buy garnier bc it adds moisture to your do. after your done try a hot oil treatment from vo5. buy aussie 3 minute miracle leave in conditioner and use regularly. you will def see a noticeable difference after 2 weeks..

trust me i just dyed my hair from platnium blonde to brown and not only was my hair fried and burnt out froim the bleach but i was afraid i would ruin it when i duyed it back brown. doing all this stuff made my hair alot healthier. maybe get a trim as well to get rid of the dead ends.
