Why does your natural hair colour darken after colouring?

I am a natural very light blonde. But I've coloured my hair red a few years ago with non-permanent, wash-out colouring, and it has washed out about 2 years ago. I've also added some blonde highlights, done professionally.

But now, where my hair grows out, it's darker than it ever was, it's almost brown. Why does this happen?

Hair changes in many ways as we grow older. This is especially apparent in woman %26amp; our hormonal changes, From puberity to pregnancy to menopause %26amp; everything in between. Its quite normal for the hair to darken naturally as we get older. Blondes go to brunette, red heads go more dark auburn. It also may look darker than normal next to your highlights.

Sunlight makes your hair lighter, because you have had your hair died and your natural colour hasn't seen light it makes it a lot darker.
