Best way to get hair back to natural color?

I haven't had my natural hair color for many years. And for a long time I've wanted to get it back, but no one [yes, including hairdressers] have been able to achieve it. My natural hair color is a light brown [but it's not that simple to get it] it's of it's own shade, obviously since it's natural. I dye my hair reds and darker browns so I figure I need to have my hair stripped [I've gotten that done before] when it's time to do that. should I just let my hair grow out as much as I can to where someone can clearly see the natural roots to get the closest/exact color? I just needs some opinions, thanks.

Letting the roots grow out enough is a way to help others match the original color. Be aware that what you may remember as your natural color may have changed by now. Many people's hair undergoes some subtle color shifting as they get older, additionally your previous natural hair color may have been affected by sunlight which would cause additional variation.

I dye my hair all the time too. One time when I wanted to go back to blonde and make it look as close to my natural color as possible I did as you did, waited a bit, let the roots grow in nicely - when to a quality salon and then they matched it as close as they could (no chemical color will EVER match naturally occuring hair color) and place low lights and highlights in it as well to help with the blending. Over time more of my natural color grew in and subsequent cuts and additional highlighting (which is always a good thing) got it back to "normal." Then I chopped it all off and did hot pink for awhile!

The key though is time. Stripping your hair and more dye is a waste of time IMO. You can speed up the process by taking the plunge with a new, edgy super short cut (maybe grow your roots out just a bit more). Then as it grows you can continue to cut out the dyed till there is nothing left but natural. It's a good opportunity to try something new if you've never done it before. Less hassle as well.

The way I would do it, would be to just grow your hair out so the highlights and coloring would grow out the cut your hair to the disired length! HOPE IT HELPS!!~

Bleach it, Buy a color that best resembles the original, and hope it all blends in.

Good luck

if you let your hair grow out to where you can see your natural color on the roots, then they should be able to match it, or get as close to it as possible.

if anything just keep growing your hair out and cutting it a little bit at a time and your natural color will eventually grow back in on its own.

i'm in cosmetology school, and my teacher has told me that there really is nothing out there that will help your hair grow faster than it naturally grows which is 1/2 inch per month.

you'll just have to let it grow.

Find a product called MYHD.

I swear by it. It takes just the dye out. Not any of the natural oils in your hair.

go bald.. then when your hair has grown back, it's in it's natural color.

I would let roots grow out enough for Salon to see. Then let them match as close as they can and have highlights [lightly] added.

The highlights will make the color blend in, cause no dye will exactly match your color.
