The sun lightens your natural hair color, and hair products and heat styling can make it look dull. You could get highlights a few shades lighter than your natural color. Or you could use a color gloss. I use John Frieda color glaze, which you can use once a week for 20 minutes, or everyday in the shower. It deposits a little bit of color in your hair to make it look healthy and shiny. You can get it in brown, if you want to darken or intensify your hair color some, or in clear if you just want it to be shiny. It's under $10 at most drugstores.

Yes it can by being out in the sun. I'm a girl with long hair and if I put the bottom ends of my hair up to my roots (I don't dye my hair) the bottom looks dark brown and the top looks black so yes it does fade. So soon I am semi-permanent dying my hair a richer blue-black instead of my now dead brownish black hair.
