Why do people think that natural black hair is unmanageable?

A lot of times on here and in life everyday life I hear Black women saying that they wear relaxers and weaves because their natural hair is unmanageble. Seriously who taught you all this lie? When was the last time you tried to deal with your natural hair? I have NO problems with black women straightening their hair but stop telling this lie that our hair isn't manageable. If you educate yourself on how to properly comb the hair and what products to use you would have no problems. You can't treat kinky or curly texture the same way your treat straight hair. If you try to comb kinky hair the same way your comb straight hair of course you going to have problems. I've been natural for a while now and I spend less time on my now then I did with a relaxers. If you want to relax your hair that's fine with me but stop using that tired excuse as to why you get a relaxer. Just say you like straight hair better, be honest.

Wow, I really find this interesting because I honestly believed that it was almost impossible to manage my natural hair because I grew up getting perms, and my mother grew up the same way so she naturally just passed her hair care traditions down to me so I never learned how to comb my hair when it gets 'kinky'....do you know some websites for tips on natural hair care?

I think that some Black women think that their hair is unmanageable because of TV and stuff like that. Everybody on TV has silky hair that you can comb your fingers through, and everyone wants hair like that. So when some Black women look in the mirror and see kinky or curly hair, they get freaked out and run to the nearest salon and get it relaxed and even then you have to straighten it because sometimes relaxers aren't strong enough for our hair. I wear mine natural because I'm proud to have hair like mine and I'm not going to straighten it because I think it's more convenient, because it really isn't.

I grew up getting relaxers. Its considered unmanagable because people never learned how to properly care for hair in its natural state. once i started learning about my natural hair i stopped relaxing its more beautiful nature anyway

Also alot of women feel that afro hair is ugly because we live in a white society and watching tv little black girls from a young age want to look like disney princess that includes there hair so they get it relaxed. Alot of selfhate in the black community.
