Natural hair question...?

I'm a professional black (african american) woman and I recently decided to stop getting relaxers and let my my hair grow natural. I've had a relaxer since I was 7. My mother thinks its a terrible idea. She thinks that wearing my hair natural isn't professional. I am a office manager for a corporate real estate firm and I am the only black there. My mother thinks that my job would be in jeopardy if I change my look. Are there any other professional women or men that wear their hair natural? What advice do you have? Who's right me or my mom? Thank you in advance.

Natural hair question...?

Of course not, and it is a great idea.

Natural hair question...?

I am not black, but I hope you will consider my response as I am an educated woman holding a highly skilled professional job.

I believe that we are judged on our abilities to do our jobs. So long as we look (neat, conservatively dressed, clean, etc...) and act in a professional manner, then the rest is irrelevant.

So I'm with you -- let your hair go natural. Just keep it clean (as I'm sure you do) and it will be fine.

Natural hair question...?

If you get fired because of your hair then you have the right to sue. For millions. Girl let your natural hair grow!!!!!!!!

Natural hair question...?

Dont be afraid of your natural hair, i have very curly hair although im not black and for years I straightened it, only recently i decided to let it go natural and its never been in better shape or looked so good. try getting some really good products with it, experiment!

Natural hair question...?

I think as long as you are well groomed it should be fine just as for anyone else. Are you good friends w/ your co-workers? if you are, then it really shouldnt be a problem.

Natural hair question...?

Oprah wears her hair in many styles but then she can afford to. She's her own person.

Check out some professional magazines and pay particular attention to the hair styles of those like you.

It is your hair but you don't want to jeopardize your job. Do remember "mother is always right" at least most of the time.

Natural hair question...?

WEAR IT THE WAY YOU LIKE ..IF YOUR BOSS SAYS SOMETHING THEN CHANGE IT BACK .

Natural hair question...?

I'm a black woman who also wants to stop perming hair, and who has a mother who doesn't like that idea..

I would say, that as long as your hair is well kept, you should do it...we have great hair, and we should take pride in it!

Your mom, as mine only have our best interests at heart, but it doesn't mean they're right..

I say, find a hairdresser that takes care of natural black hair really well, and go for it..

Hey..I should take my own advice..!! Tired of burned scalps!!

Natural hair question...?

It depends on how you intend on wearing your hair naturally. As long as it is neat, no frizz, and well maintained then go for it. As a professional it is important to look well manicured. If you pick a style that makes you feel insecure it will destroy your whole look. Your hair is important in defining your whole look because that is what most people see first.

I would discuss this with a professional beautician on what choices would be best and then present your new look to your family and friends to get their opinions first before you go to the office. I wouldn't go for the dreadlock look, sorry.

Good luck!

Natural hair question...?

Hair really isnt a concern as long as its GROOMED. The next thing is healthy skin and teeth.

Hair is really a small factor in the overall total package. Youll be amazed at what a great smile and a healthy complexion can do.

Natural hair question...?

If your job has a problem with your HAIR and not your performance, that's discrimination. As long as you're not wearing a fro that blocks the view of your coworkers or something, you're fine. If you want a more "professional" look while natural, try twist outs, an upswept bun or you can flat iron it straight. there are plenty of styles that work here: www.curlyhairsalon.com

I think your mother may not be comfortable with natural hair, and this may be her way of trying to scare you straight - don't do it %26amp; %26amp; good luck!

Natural hair question...?

Go natural....but keep it tame. And as long as it doesnt cause a comotion and you still work as well as you did before...then all should be fine..=)
